Explanatory Text

A second post to demonstrate some of the features of this news page.
Firstly, this shows how each piece of news will be displayed on the page. Comments can be added by users of the website, and are displayed for all to read. Alternatively, comments can be disabled.

Up to five items of news will be displayed per page, though this can be changed to any number you like. New pages of archived (older) news items are kept and placed on other pages, all created automatically. Numbered links to pages are placed at the bottom of each page. The number of archives is limitless, though after a while, it may be a good idea to remove the oldest items.

Text can be formatted a number of ways, easily accessed using buttons in the admin area. Text can be bold, italic or underlined, or combinations of these styles. Images can be uploaded to a dedicated folder, and linked to easily with a copy and paste piece of code provided for you when you upload the image.

The most important feature of the news page is that it creates what is known as a 'feed' using RSS 2.0. This is the news items in a language that syndicated aggregators can undertand, and is a great way to help publicise your website content. The link at the bottom of this page that says 'XML' is the link to the feed. This link can be placed in aggregators and read without a user visiting the actual website. It also tells the user when new content is added to the site, again without the user having to visit the site.

Another main feature of this news page is that all data is stored without the need for a database, thereby cutting down on the cost of hosting and implementation.

So, a lot for such a simple looking page! For more help or information, please contact penworks.net

What this page is

This is a test 'news' page, demonstrating a one page dynamic content in a mainly static website feature. The page also generates an RSS (version 2.0) feed, allowing for syndication of the content to readers (aggregators).

By utilizing Bulletin Board code (BB code), the user has access to a range of basic functions in the admin section, including bold and italic text, placing links, and placing images. These functions are accessed by neat little buttons, which are very simple to understand and use. Images can also be uploaded to a dedicated folder for use with the news page items.

The feed is compatible with all major aggregators, including Google, Yahoo and iTunes, amongst many others.

If you already have a static website and don't want to go to the expense of moving to a fully dynamic website using a database, this is the solution for you. This feature can be slotted into any existing site, and designed to any bespoke specification or requirement. THIS PAGE STORES YOUR DATA WITHOUT THE NEED FOR A DATABASE.

Testing

test again to see if it can see the original script properly, not adding new characters.
